Meals

We’ve hit a recipe for success.

Across London, we provide meal services for people experiencing homelessness, older people, refugees, asylum seekers and people affected by mental health challenges. FEAST works with partners in the community across 15 sites for meal services.

Community Meals

In some sites we have communal dining, where everyone cooks and eats together as equals. In temporary homeless accommodation, mental health day centres and community centres, we support people experiencing homelessness, people affected by mental health challenges and older people by providing nutritious and delicious meals.

Creating friendly, welcoming, inclusive spaces, we strengthen emotional wellbeing through conversations and socialisation and provide opportunities to learn basic cooking skills through participation in meal preparation. This builds community and improves a sense of belonging.

“I like coming in, and the reason I come, is because you meet people who are in the same boat as you, it helps you a lot, and the love is tremendous.” - FEAST service user

Delivered Meals

We also prepare and deliver nutritious meals to hostels and community centres for individuals experiencing food insecurity to collect. We want to widen our reach to people who reside in hostels without dining space and to promote inclusion despite the difficult circumstances in which people live.

“I’m sleeping better, I’m eating better, I’m thinking better, I’m more motivated, [...] I don’t know where I’d be today if it wasn’t for someone finding me on the street and bringing me here. The stress is lifted. If you’d asked me in October what I was thinking, I would have liked not to see the winter through. Before, I couldn’t see a future, but now I can.” - FEAST service user

We also ...

  • Save thousands of kilos of food from going to landfill by giving it new life in our nutritious meals.
  • Cook on average 2300 meals a month for those who need them.
  • Deliver on average 325 community meals and 275 delivered meals per week to local shelters, hostels and community spaces.

Dave’s story

We first met Dave shortly after he was diagnosed with schizophrenia and he has been coming to Barnes House in Camden, for nearly 16 years. His illness means that when he feels lonely, or doesn’t have a place to go, he finds it difficult to look after himself. He doesn’t eat, wash or take the medication he needs to manage his condition.
“I rely on FEAST to give me a hot meal and help with normal, everyday things,” Dave explains. “It helps me tremendously: getting some hot food inside me during the day keeps my body stabilised, which means I can take better care of myself, and I feel happy and well again.”
Dave also struggles with managing his diabetes and is being given the information and skills he needs through our workshops to cook low cost, nourishing meals, that help him manage his condition.
