FEAST With Us Needs You!
Food Poverty Through Education
Since 2015, FEAST With Us has been providing a much-needed meal service for vulnerable people in London experiencing food poverty. Since the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic, the number of people facing food insecurity has greatly increased, including young people and their families.
One in four adults now reports having difficulty in accessing food they can afford and child food poverty has also come to the fore with 14% of families with children experiencing moderate or severe food insecurity
Food poverty and malnutrition go hand in hand, with lack of access to food also resulting in many being unable to secure a nutritious diet leading to more health risks and diet-related illnesses.
Here at FEAST With Us, we have a plan to make a real difference in the lives of those we help by tackling the root causes of food poverty and giving as many people as possible the tools to long-term food independence.
What is the plan?
Our newest project will support young people up to 25 years-old, many of whom rely on free school meals during term time and whose families have very little disposable income to provide nutritious meal choices outside of school.
We will be delivering a weekly nutrition education programme to support these young people and their families and equip them to be able to:
- Make healthy meal choices
- Cook on a budget
- Make sustainable food choices.
How can you help us?
We need your help to get this pioneering project off the ground! We are excited to have been accepted onto the Aviva Crowdfunding platform to raise funds to support this.
On the 5th of May, our Crowdfunder page goes live to the public for donations and we are asking for as much support as possible to get our campaign noticed. Please help by sharing the link to our page with your networks and across your social media channels. All support and donations are greatly appreciated and there are some great prizes on offer as well!
If we meet our target of £2,500, the Crowdfunder campaign funds will help develop the programme, cover equipment, the development of digital resources and support staff costs to set-up the programme for young people over the school summer holidays. Raised funds will also enable us to undertake research to further tailor this project to suit the needs of the young people and their families.
If we exceed our target, donations will support the delivery and longevity of these programmes, helping us to reach more vulnerable young people experiencing food poverty.
